Old-fashioned cake recipes from scratch. Many of these are classics, Blue Ribbon cakes that were entered into a state or county fair contest where they won 1st place for best of taste.

Some were served in best restaurants and cafeterias. I sold our Sour Cream Coffee Cakes wholesale to a local wine cellar, where they were so popular they were sold out the day we delivered.

Where I grew up, homemade cakes were a baker's pride and joy. Cooks were judged by their baking expertise.

At gatherings such as picnics, reunions, church functions etc. these cakes were the table's focal point. If the cook had a reputation of "could bake the best cakes", guests grabbed them early, before fried chicken and roast beef.

These old fashioned cake recipes listed have been in our family many years, passing the "tried and true" tests.
