I have selected the best for you.

At eight years old, I baked my first cookies using Mama's old Spry Shortening cookbook.

After all these years, I can remember vividly, the wonderful experience of how delicious and tender they were.

Grocery shelves are filled with cookies.

Some are delicious... all are convenient.

But, you can't buy in a box the fine flavor and pleasure of making these from scratch.

Nor the nostalgic memories of eating a hot chewy or crunchy cookie, fresh from the oven.

Some of these are quick and easy to make. Others take more time. All are super delicious... well worth your time and effort.

Baking Tips For
Cookie Recipes From Scratch

If the recipe lists butter as the fat ingredient it is important not to substitute margarine or other vegetable shortening unless noted or for health reasons.

You will not attain the buttery taste intended.

The texture could also become altered.

It is also important to follow the mixing instructions precisely.

Creaming butter or other fat listed with sugar until light and fluffy starts the sugar dissolving and incorporates air into the batter producing a lighter and more delicate cookie.

Packing And Shipping Tips

Choosing the type of cookie to ship is detrimental to their arrival condition. So is the correct packaging.

Cookies that are thin and or fragile before shipping will almost certainly arrive crumbled.

So will loosely packaged ones.

Sturdy boxes with lots of packing fillers is vital.

The fastest shipping medium available for quick delivery should be used.

First class or priority mail in sturdy boxes provided by the USPS is an excellent choice.

A safe way to pack is to place a few in a zip lock soft fitting plastic bag, seal it and place several bags close together in an inner box.

Place the inner box in a strong sturdy outer box with lots of packing filler surrounding it.

Secure the outer box with strong acceptable shipping tape.

Ship for overnight delivery, if possible.

Don't forget to ship early around the Holidays to our servicemen and servicewomen.

History Of Cookies

Cookie Recipes came to America from Europeans when they started to colonize after Christopher Columbus discovered America.

Americas first book published in America was a 47 page cook book named American Cookery, created 1796 by an orphan named Amelia Simmons.

That cook book contained a recipe for cookies.

Those cookies were cooked on a hot stone because cook stoves were not invented at that time.

It is amazing that so many of those good, Old Fashioned Recipes, created so long ago are still here.
